Jorja Smith, Robyn y Fcukers se alzó con varios de los galardones en los Independent Music Awards de 2026, celebrados este martes (22 de septiembre) en Londres.
Estos premios anuales, organizados por la Asociación de Música Independiente del Reino Unido (AIM), rinden tributo a la vibrante escena independiente del país a través de una selecta lista de nominados de diversos géneros. La gala tuvo lugar en el emblemático recinto The Roundhouse, en el norte de Londres.
Smith se impuso en la categoría de mejor tema independiente con “The Way I Love You”, lanzado en mayo de 2025 bajo su propio sello FAMM, el cual alcanzó el puesto 39 en la lista oficial de sencillos del Reino Unido. Este galardón representa el segundo en su trayectoria dentro de estos premios, tras haber obtenido el trofeo a la artista revelación independiente en 2018.
Por su parte, Robyn se llevó el reconocimiento al mejor álbum independiente por su noveno material discográfico, titulado Sexistential (editado a través de Young). Asimismo, la estrella del soul Jalen Ngonda —fichado por Daptone y que competía en tres apartados— se consagró como la revelación independiente.
Jim Legxacy brilló en la categoría de mejor mixtape/EP independiente gracias a su aclamado trabajo Black British Music (2025), el cual también estuvo nominado al prestigioso Mercury Prize y fue publicado por XL Recordings.
El galardón PPL al artista independiente novel con mayor difusión en radio y streaming fue para Bees & Honey, mientras que Native James se coronó como la gran promesa a seguir.
Pauline Black, vocalista principal de la legendaria banda de 2 tone The Selector, recibió el premio a la contribución sobresaliente a la música y ofreció una actuación en directo durante la velada. Por su parte, el dúo de DJs Fabio & Grooverider fue distinguido con el premio a la innovación en reconocimiento a su trayectoria decisiva en las escenas británicas de jungle y drum ‘n’ bass.
